This is a touchy subject for most people but lets clear the air.  Not all control’s are equal. There are IR controls (infra-red), RF controls (radio frequency) and Spread Spectrum (higher band of radio frequency but provides two-way communications) , Touchpanel and Touchscreen ranging from $ 19 - $ 10,000. Which one is for me?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then one of these types of controls are for you. Most typically in a residential setting an IR or RF based remote will work sufficiently. However, if multiple sub-system control and monitoring is what is desired then a spread spectrum control system is your answer.

With this system you may also have multiple control locations throughout your home or business containing a combination of wired and wireless panels. If you can dream it this system can most likely control it. Based on a hard wired central processor using a RS232 and/or RS 422/485 protocol it can provide two-way communication between just about any connected device. This system has the capability to be accessed from anywhere in the world that you have access to a phone line and computer. Ideal applications include: Private screening rooms, Boardrooms, Home theatre, Media room, Estate control and monitoring, Training facilities, Themed Attractions and Museums.

Both of the above systems require a trained professional for programming however once programmed a user can modify and add limited controls that he or she may desire. You can plan to spend about $ 450.00 on a custom labeled and programmed IR based control and $ 1,600 - $ 3,000 on the same RF remote and $ 3,500 on a basic RF touchpanel with RS 232 based communications. These prices can vary radically depending on the size and overall operation desired.
